Gujarat Giants Women: The Gujarat Giants, owned by Gautam Adani, spent INR 11.95 Crores in the recent Women’s Premier League (WPL) mega-auction to build their 18-player squad for the inaugural season. Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner was their most expensive acquisition, with the Ahmedabad-based franchise spending over 1/4th (INR 3.20 Crores) of their budget to secure her services. In addition to Gardner, the Giants have added wicketkeeper-batter Beth Mooney (INR 2 Crores), explosive English opener Sophia Dunkley (INR 40 Lakhs), West Indian all-rounder Deandra Dottin (INR 60 Lakhs), and Australian all-rounders Georgia Wareham (INR 75 Lakhs) and Annabel Sutherland (INR 70 Lakhs) to their squad.
In the tournament’s opening match, Gujarat Giants will face off against Mumbai Indians. On paper, the Giants appear to be a formidable team with a number of match-winners such as Australian players Ashleigh Gardner and Beth Mooney, as well as Indian and West Indian all-rounders Deandra Dottin.
