Early Life and Career of Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj Gaikwad started playing cricket when he was just 7 years old. He was coached by his father, who was also a cricket player, and started playing for the Maharashtra Under-16 team when he was just 13 years old. He continued to play for the Maharashtra Under-19 and Under-23 teams, and made his first-class debut for Maharashtra in the 2016-17 season of the Ranji Trophy.
In the following years, Ruturaj Gaikwad continued to play domestic cricket for Maharashtra and also represented India at the Under-23 level. He impressed with his performances and was eventually picked up by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL).
Ruturaj Gaikwad IPL Career
Ruturaj Gaikwad’s first season with the Chennai Super Kings didn’t go as planned as he struggled to make an impact. However, he was given another chance in the 2020 IPL season and he grabbed it with both hands. He scored three consecutive fifties in the last three games of the season, helping CSK win all three matches. He ended the season with 204 runs at an average of 51.00 and a strike rate of 120.71.
In the 2021 IPL season, Ruturaj Gaikwad continued his good form and finished as the leading run-scorer for CSK with 635 runs in 16 matches at an average of 35.27 and a strike rate of 139.06. He also scored his maiden IPL century in a match against the Mumbai Indians, finishing with an unbeaten 88-ball 132.
International Career
Ruturaj Gaikwad made his international debut for India in a One Day International (ODI) against Sri Lanka in July 2021. He scored 21 runs in his debut match and has played one more ODI since then.
